Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All my students want to do is learn and "Get Smart!" They are at least two grade levels below and benefit from the use of technology, reinforcement, and differentiation. They are eager to learn and explore.
My class is made up of seven students diagnosed with Autism and ADD/ADHD with limited language skills.
Communicating their basic needs is a daily challenge. Autism does not define who they are or what they can do. They amaze me every single day with the obstacles they overcome. Many of them come from low income homes and qualify for free and reduced lunch. My students excel when using technology.
My Project
Sphero Mini's will allow my students to partake in 21st century learning and explore other outlets of their creative minds. With that in mind, teaching students to code, program, and be problem-solvers is critical to their future success. Students in neighboring districts just a few miles away have access to programs, classes and technology equipment that my students don't have access to.
Sphero-Mini's will allow me to incorporate coding, robotics, and other STEAM skills into the curriculum and also enable my students to be competitive with peers from other districts.
It will give them the power to not just use technology but to invent and interact with technology so they can create the next big inventions and technologies of the future. The skills learned here will help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, strengthen literacy skills such as sequencing and communication, and improve logical reasoning and processing which is essential for Math and Science. The storage cases will keep these little guys safe and protected and make them easy to grab and go when needed.
All these skills are necessary life skills that can be applied not just to one or two periods a day but across the curriculum in all subjects all day long.
