Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from Houston, TX are energetic and curious. They come to school ready to learn and love to work on projects and hands-on activities. They encounter many difficulties in life but they continue to pursue greatness. For the third year in a row we have the privilege to offer an opportunity for the students to engage with an agricultural program at our school.
My students genuinely want to learn and want an authentic learning experience.
So in order to ensure all of our students can achieve excellence we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, flexible seating, group work, after school programs and alternative learning options.
I have had the honor to watch these students grow personally and academically and their growth is amazing.
My Project
All students deserve the opportunity to learn and engage in an inclusive environment. With this new equipment my students will be able to explore STEAM through culinary arts. I would like to make science more approachable to my students and I feel as if one of the best ways people understand things is through food. Culinary Arts is a class that we do not see happening much in schools and I want to bring it back. Culinary Arts is not just about making food but it is an experience from start to finish; students can feel proud and accomplished that they created with their own hands.
Students will have an opportunity to travel the world with use of technology in the classroom in order to create dishes from other cultures and countries.
Learning how food is prepared in other cultures will help students to gain an appreciation for different cultures which will help to build empathy. Culinary Arts is all about tapping into ones creativity which will allow students to learn in their own style. My students will read, practice their math skills, build dishes and create artistic desserts in this class and all we need is the right equipment. Culinary Arts also helps to build effective communication and time management skills. This new equipment will help my students to have hands on experiences in science by studying culinary arts.
