Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our library has been transformed into the perfect STEAM/Makerspace location. We also were able to purchase over 75 STEAM/Makerspace activity books. However, the students at my school can come from a variety of backgrounds whether homeless, migrant, or going back and forth between 2 or more homes. They do not have the necessary materials to create these many activities to help build their science, math, engineering, technology and art skills. If my library can provide them with those necessary materials, either while they are at school or at home, they will be able to build the necessary 21st century STEAM skills needed in today's world.
My Project
The resources such as the clay, building materials, craft materials, and art supplies, will allow students to learn science, technology, engineering, art and math skills in a hands on way. We have purchased Makerspace/STEAM books such as, Origami Science Experiments, Smithsonian Maker Lab books, Wood Shop Activities, Changing Matter in Makerspace, Joining Materials in Makerspace, and many more.
Having these consumable materials is exactly what our high poverty population of students need in order to learn the many higher level thinking concepts that can be fostered with hands on learning in STEAM.
