Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

STEAM concepts are an important part of today's curriculum. My students are in a self-contained special education classroom where all academic subjects are taught daily. They enjoy working with hands-on activities in the classroom. LEGO Education spike will provide them an opportunity to learn and master STEAM skills through concept, representation, and abstract learning.

The hands-on experience allows students to make a connection through a fun and engaging activity.

LEGO Education spike promotes development in literacy, math, and social-emotional skills. It is a great way to motivate student learning, help them turn unknown concepts into reality, and inspire them to pursue a career in STEAM.

Although not all students in our program are able to access STEAM classrooms on campus, they are still provided rigorous grade-level content within our classroom that has been scaffolded to meet their academic needs.

Many of my students struggle with academic content or are emerging readers. Previously, hands-on activities have been a great way for students to acquire new skills and give them the confidence that they can achieve their goals.

Having access to these materials would allow me to bridge the gap in their foundational learning, and prepare them for their eventual placement in a general education setting. Multiple sets of these materials would allow me to break students into smaller groups ensuring they all have an opportunity to have hands-on engagement in the lessons while receiving the necessary support they need to be successful.
