Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach are curious and inquisitive about the world around them. More than half of them are English Language Learners (ELL). Every day, they work hard to transition from Spanish to English. They work hard to be successful.
Our students are very bright, fun-loving, and inquisitive young boys and girls.
I would like to give our students the opportunity to develop their creativity and curiosity through the use of technology. I think it is important in this technologically advanced age that students from all socioeconomic areas be exposed to various technologies.
My Project
I would like to add more items to our Makerspace area within the library. Osmo would be the perfect addition since it not only engages students intellectually, but also creatively.
The award-winning Osmo brings art, coding, technology, and more to life for students in a fun and meaningful way.
Their art can seemingly come alive and with the Genius Kit, students learn numbers, words, and work with tangrams. It was designed with the kindergarten-6th grade student in mind, so it is perfect for our library (PK-4).
One of the major hurdles in providing this to our students is the fact that I do not currently have iPads in the library. Therefore, in addition to asking for the Osmo, I am needing to request the iPad. I know it is a lot to ask; however, I feel that the students would benefit greatly from collaboratively working to creatively problem solve solutions to all of the various tasks. I also believe that the students would benefit from the creative opportunities.
