STEAM Integration With Sphero Mini Robots and 3Doodler Pens
Help me give my students 3Doodler pens and Sphero Minis to explore STEAM and creative thinking. Items will be integrated into classroom lessons and help engage our young learners. Tools will help students think critically and solve problems.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic status. Students at this school are enthusiastic learners who love technology. They are also more engaged when using technology. BrightBytes data show that students learn better when using technology.
Students are creative thinkers and problem solvers and apply learning to the real world.
They use Chromebooks or iPads to engage in opportunities they may otherwise not experience. Increasing access to future tools will allow students to become involved citizens who are college and career ready.
My Project
Elementary students will use Sphero robots to put coding into practice. When we use the robots, they will either use an iPad or Chromebook to program the robots to navigate around the classroom.
Besides refining coding and STEM skills, students will be able to bring learning elements to life.
An example would be students can move the robot to different areas when retelling a story. The robots can also be used in math and science to compare time, speed, and distance. In social studies, students will design a "costume" for the robot to bring their topics to life.
3Doodler pens will allow students to create models of what they are studying. Plants and insects would not be a flat picture. Students can physically touch to understand. They will be more engaged when they can design their own bug or create something that will solve a problem.
