Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has a dynamic learning environment where we empower all students to become independent thinkers.
My first graders are creative, innovative, and talented individuals.
They love to share and are hungry for knowledge! I work with amazing students that come from a variety of backgrounds. They love education and love learning, and I want to ensure they have all the necessary materials to be successful!
I believe that this project will help to bridge the gap between my students' academic levels and also serve to help students focus and have an increased love for learning each day!
My Project
This project will help to develop my students' interests in becoming future architects, engineers, scientists, and other professionals. These materials will allow my students to engage in hands-on experiences and foster their interests in becoming the scientists that they truly aspire to be by using individual STEAM bins to create real life structures.
With the use of these materials, my students will be able to create, investigate, build, brainstorm, test, problem solve, and develop inquiry-based and real world problem-based learning.
My students will gain an understanding of why they made what they made, take ownership of their work, and recognize its importance to the real world.
They will use TINKERTOYs, LEGOs, Play-Doh, Magna-Tiles, a Gobi Construction set, pipe cleaners, straws, magnets, tape, and other games and activities to problem solve how to construct real life objects such as bridges, planes, tunnels and animal homes to name a few structures. Through the process of using these materials, students will create a blueprint, construct a real life object using specific materials in a given bin, write about their structure and finally, share with their classmates their results.
The skills of collaboration are imperative skills my students will be demonstrating in conjunction with math, arts, fine motor skills, science, technology, and engineering.
