STEAM Exploration using Magnetic Tiles

My Students

I work at a school whose focus is on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Our school is next to a regional park that consists of 1,840 acres of a natural area located just outside a highly developed urban environment. Students can explore areas of the woods, wetlands, and grassland that attract many species of wildlife.

The preschoolers that enter our building are eager to take in knowledge.

They need real experiences where they can gain background information to further their creativity and spark lifelong learners.

My Project

I have been looking for ways to encourage my students to play together, use their words, and figure out how to problem-solve together. I have the basic set of magnetic tiles, which they love!

Right now, they use the magnetic tiles to build separate creations, which does not force them to have to play with one another.

Adding the Ball Maze pieces to the normal magnetic set will foster cooperative play! These materials will require them to work with one another in order to make a successful maze for the balls to reach the end. They will have to practice communicating with one another and problem solving when the balls get stuck. I can't wait to see how these materials really bring the students together and build relationships within my room.
