My students need additional materials like a storage unit and Tempranillo paint, to support our continued growth in size as a classroom. We need to expand our building and art materials to support more students, and we need shelving to store it all.
I teach a combined classroom of 1st and 2nd graders, ages 6, 7 and 8 years old. My school is an urban, progressive school that gives both students and families voice. It is a city-wide school, making our school diverse in many ways. We have students with and without disabilities, as well as English Language Learners. Our students are independent thinkers, learners, and problems solvers. They know the value of working with your hands to create something wonderful. They learn that community is an important part of learning and that they have a responsibility for making it a good one. Along with all that, they love how to laugh, play hard, and have fun!
My Project
We have happily been growing in size as a classroom over the past two years, and with more students we need more materials to help everyone be involved in project-based learning.
I have seen students light up when they have the chance to build with Legos or blend paints to help bring their exact vision to life.
I am hopeful that expanding our supply of Legos and paint will keep project-based work at the forefront of what we do in our classroom, and the additional shelving will help keep our space organized so that all of us can work successfully.
