My students need basic classroom materials, manipulatives that allow them to create, build, and think critically, and books to inspire them and feed their curiosity of the would around them.

My Students

I have the privilege this year to be moving from a grade level classroom into a resource position, teaching STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) that will allow me the opportunity to work with all students in my school. The student population in my school is varied and diverse. They come from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics--STEM is important because it pervades every part of our lives; science is everywhere in the world around us; technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives: STEM + Art = STEAM.

As STEAM services all students, most will not be bringing in school supplies to stock my classroom, and I need materials to better my teaching and planning. I have a lot to learn this year and I am excited for this challenge!

My Project

The materials for this project will give students opportunities to go beyond standardized testing prep and the prescribed pacing guides of their homeroom classrooms. These materials will feed the inquiry-based learning and hands on critical thinking skills that cannot be measured by generic achievement assessments.

These materials will help to implement lessons that foster communication and collaboration through highly engaging and challenging opportunities.

Building a STEAM lab takes time and money. We are already off to a great start and I hope to continue adding to the diverse materials we already have--and start to create a resource library for the classroom!
