I would like to provide STEAM learning materials to add to the math and science small group activity time. Students need opportunity to foster creativity and imagination. By encouraging experimentation and failure students can discover other methods of problem solving.
The majority of the students in our district come from low-income households, as well as a high population of special education needs, and because we are in a rural area, the district's budget does not allow for additional materials beyond the necessary curriculum books.
I have collected hand-me-down sets of manipulatives, but they are not complete sets or relevant to the particular lessons I teach. Getting new STEAM-specific activities would boost motivation and increase the goals of this donation request.
The goals for this project are to lessen screen time and have meaningful activities where students use their hands and brains actively. These resources will encourage teamwork, autonomy, and face-to-face conversations. They will be forced to share ideas verbally and express their discoveries.
