My students need pencils to write and illustrate with, and a heavy-duty pencil sharpener to keep them sharp.

My Students
Help us keep writing! Students use pencils every day, for much of the day. It's amazing how fast they use them up! It's really important to have more on hand to ensure kids have the basic materials they need. In addition, we need a good electric sharpener that is quick & quiet.
My students are 10 and 11 years old, in the fifth grade.
The majority of my terrific, enthusiastic students are African American, several are Hispanic, one is Korean, one is Philipino, and one is Iranian. Our school is a TItle 1 school (meaning we have a large population of minority and impoverished students). We are in an urban area of Southern California.
My Project
The kids need a sufficient supply of pencils for everyday writing and schoolwork. They also need colored pencils (they are too old for crayons now) to illustrate and create all sorts of projects. Additionally, a heavy duty electric sharpener will help our class run more smoothly. It gets used so often. All through the day, kids' pencils are in need of sharpening. My old one is too slow, too noisy, and overheats after 3 pencils. You wouldn't believe what a distraction this can be!
My project is for real basic classroom necessities.
My students work hard and I try to provide the most meaningful, rigorous instruction possible. These items will help provide children with some of the tools they need for successful participation in school.
