it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are within a Title 1 school and are in a low economic area. They are focusing on social communication and emotions that are essential in our special education classroom and their everyday life. These tools can help support their emotional and social development. Some of the materials and tools that can help my students better understand and manage their emotions, as well as communicate effectively are Social Stories, picture exchange communication systems, emotional flashcards, and calming music. These are just a few items that would help my students understand social norms, expectations, and behaviors so they can positively interact with their peers.
These tools can guide them on how to interact in different social situations.
PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) helps students who are non-verbal or minimally verbal express themselves. PECS is often used to facilitate communication by allowing students to point to or exchange pictures of desired objects or actions. Emotion flashcards help identify and express their emotions. These cards usually feature pictures of facial expressions representing different emotions (e.g., happy, sad, angry, excited). Feelings Thermometer provides a visual aid that helps students identify and regulate their emotions by matching their feelings to a temperature scale. These tools would not only increase the amount of interaction they have with their peers but, will support them as individuals learning about their emotions.
