All of my students on IEPs learn differently and at different paces. The six Chromebooks will allow my students access to alternative learning sites and programs. The sites are driven by the students needs and gives them a timeline for their individual learning. The Flexible seating helps my students with ADHD who have a hard time sitting still within the classroom. During the time they will now have the option to use a wiggle seat and standing desk. Throughout the day my students come for their lessons at different times and with the chimes I can now gain their attention and provide a signal.
Our Special Education Students deserve to have tools that will make it possible for them to learn just as easily as their general education peers. Some of the tools include positive motivational murals and social skills games. There are times when my students need time to reset. During that time they will be able to track their own time with a new timers and use different manipulatives that will help my kinesthetic students. When it comes to state testing my students have the option of having item read to them and headphones are not always available and now they each be able to have their own reliable pair. Some of my students also have the option to stay in class but get distracted easily and with sound out headphones they will have more access to general education classroom.
As a special education teacher there is lots a paperwork that needs to be provided to parents and general education teachers that allow them to know all about the students needs. There are many times when copiers or printers are broken or unavailable but with the two new printers I can now ensure that the paperwork is printed.
