Help me give my students a sharp start to the school year this fall including pre-sharpened pencils, erasers, and heavy-duty pencil sharpeners to keep us sharp all year long!
This is a culturally diverse group of students who come from varying economic background and home lives. These students also come from very diverse backgrounds. Several of these students live in high poverty and have witnessed things that no child at their age should have to. This year I have 15 boys and 13 girls joining me giving us a total of 28 in our classroom community. Seven of the group receive extra guided support to help them achieve their academic and behavior goals.
I strive to create a learning environment for my students that help them feel welcome, safe, and accepted.
Creating a classroom community based on consistent routines and expectations helps my students begin to focus on learning. However, research shows that this is only one part of helping ten and eleven-year-olds to achieve. That is why I have started this project to help eliminate other barriers that can hinder my students from achieving.
My Project
Project Stay Sharp is designed to help my class hit the ground running this fall and maintain the course throughout the year. I selected two boxes of pre-sharpened pencils which will get students off and writing on day one. No long lines at the pencil sharpener with 28 students trying to get a sharpened pencil to work with. I added on a box of pencil top eraser to help students correct mistakes and learn and grow throughout the year. After all, we know it's always the eraser that wears out before the pencil does. Finally, I added two different types of pencil sharpeners to help keep us sharp all year long. With a big class, I need multiple sharpening stations to help us all stay sharp. Also having a set sharpener designed for regular and colored pencils will be the final step to helping us stay on point all year long.
