My Students

"Some see disabilities, but special education teachers see possibilities."

My students consist of a diverse group of children with varying special needs.

They each require some extra attention to reach their potential. My students are exceptional learners who sometimes need accommodations to be successful. Most of them are learning functional and life skills such as toileting, social skills, following simple directions, and how to manage outbursts and sensory needs.

These children are capable of so much more than even I realize, and they continue to surprise me with their abilities. They bring so much joy to our school.

My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has been very difficult to navigate this school year. My students have been so flexible in transitioning from remote learning last year to in person this year. They have been such troopers! They have learned how to use their devices and how to navigate web platforms.

The COVID-19 numbers seemed to be getting better the holidays, but with the return to school after winter break, we have seen a dramatic surge in cases!

I want to make sure I can keep my students as safe as possible while they are at school. We clean and disinfect as much as possible during the school day. We are constantly spraying things and wiping things down. Unfortunately, we are unable to order these cleaning supplies with school allocation funds, and I am forced to purchase them with my own funds. This gets very expensive!

Some parents do graciously send cleaning supplies in, but I know it can be a lot to purchase cleaning supplies for school and home, while also trying to purchase everything else your children need! I want to be able to provide my students with disinfecting spray and wipes so that we can continue to clean and disinfect toys, clean desks, common areas, classroom rugs, and everything else in the classroom on a regular basis. I also want to give my students of all sizes face masks when they come to school without one, so that we can do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19!
