This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and that provides us with great opportunities to learn from one another. We have a predominately African American student population but in more recent years have encountered a rapidly increasing Hispanic and English as a Second Language or English Language Learners (ESL/ELL). Our students have very diverse life experiences that in some ways have set them off course from graduating in the "normal" expected four-year timeline. Nonetheless, our students show resilience in returning to and continuing school on their journey to obtain their high school diploma.
My Project
My school is an alternative school that isn't afforded the resources and supplies that traditional schools receieve for sports. Our school doesn't even offer many of the sports that traditional schools offer, thus we do not have access or money for the resources that are necessary for students to participate in those sports. Not having resources and supplies for certain sports often deters students from wanting to participate. Even though this an alternative school, our students still want to have as much of a normal high school experience as possible, though our season is fairly short. I have been hired as the coach for the girls basketball team for our upcoming season in March and would love support and donations with gettng some basic resources that will help get our season off to what I hope will be a great, winning season.
