Stay Calm, Be Kind, And Just Breathe Part 2

Help me give my students continued support. I have seen great progress and growth in responsibility for individual actions with the supplies I previously received in the project "Stay Calm, Be Kind, and Just Breathe."

My Students

I have noticed that having a calm corner in the classroom has increased my student's independence and responsibility of their actions and feelings.

Sometimes all it takes for a student to feel loved is to have the right resources available to ensure that their basic needs are being met.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face many challenges due to financial hardships, cultural differences, and lack of family support. Many do not have access to resources that could help them deal with traumas, anxious feelings, anger, and the inability to cope with their feelings. This lack of support often hinders their academic success.

I believe that every student deserves the best, no matter where they come from or what support they have. It is my job to provide students with an education, both academic and social, that will help them become tomorrow's leaders.

The halls at my school are filled with love, laughter, and diverse children who all want the same thing: an equal chance to succeed in life. The challenges that my students face should not inhibit them from reaching their potential.

My Project

"Mrs. Wright I need a break." These words have replaced outbursts of frustration, overload, and overall undesired behavior. By providing a greater understanding of our diversity in the classroom and allowing each person equal access to the calm corner, I have seen a growth in my students understanding of what it truly means to take a break, be kind to themselves as well as others, and the empowerment of deep breathing. The space has been a safe place for students to go when they are feeling overwhelmed as well as a space for students to take a break when they have reached a frustrating point in their work. I want to provide several additional resources as we focus on persevering through difficult situations.

With the laminator I will be able to laminate the calm corner expectations, reflection sheets, and additional calming resources that I create from paper.

With the fidgets I will have more available to reach students that are in need of a break.

The books will continue to support my teachings of the importance of diversity and the impact of perseverance, through literacy.

I look forward to working with my students as we reach our goal of becoming self-regulated, self-respectable, and self- empowered members of society.
