Who did the Redskins play in their first ever trip the Super Bowl? Who was the first black Miss U.S.A? What is Tom Cruise's birth name? What is the only muscle found in the heart? Identify the name and age of the oldest interactive video. How fast can a rabbit run? All of these questions have the answers embedded in the 2007 World Almanac for Kids. Almanacs are not only extremely beneficial for finding peculiar facts and statistics, but they allow students to identify key words, cross reference, use indexes, look up information, and skim and scan for details. All of the necessary skills for doing basic research in a library or on the Internet are right at their fingertips. In addition, reading and interpreting tables and charts, finding averages, comparing and reading large numbers, and graphing data are a few of the mathematical advantages in having this resource easily accessible to students. Almanacs in the classroom would allow me to also create a Library Center that is fully functional and allows students to explore data and statistics for projects right there in the classroom. At the present time, our school library is being renovated and the resources needed are not always accessible when needed. I hope that your generous donation will allow me to better serve my students by giving them practical, real world resources for doing research in the classroom. NOTE: The answers to the above questions will be provided by my students to the wonderful donor of this project.
