My Students

My students are imaginative, kind, and full of questions! Many of my students are struggling readers. Having a book study in math shows them the importance of reading. They enjoy projects that allow them to see the world through a new lens. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.

My Project

I am looking to get a class set of the book 'Naked Statistic' by Charles Wheelan. Book description: Once considered tedious, the field of statistics is rapidly evolving into a discipline Hal Varian, chief economist at Google, has actually called "sexy." From batting averages and political polls to game shows and medical research, the real-world application of statistics continues to grow by leaps and bounds. How can we catch schools that cheat on standardized tests? How does Netflix know which movies you’ll like? What is causing the rising incidence of autism? As best-selling author Charles Wheelan shows us in Naked Statistics, the right data and a few well-chosen statistical tools can help us answer these questions and more.

Several of my students struggle with reading, while excelling at math; they feel if they are good enough at math they will not have to read.

Many students feel like reading and math are two separate things, this project helps them understand the importance of literacy in all areas.

This pandemic has shown the importance of being able to understand data. Through reading this book the students will be able to get a better understanding of how data is collected and used in the 'real-world'.
