My Students

I am walking into a brand new classroom that I was able to go and see last night. There are two cabinets full of books and no materials for the students to use. I need to quickly begin putting the materials together for the beginning of the year.

I have not met my students yet but I do know that our school is diverse and 41% receive free and reduced lunches.

We live in central Michigan in a small town that is extremely close. This is my first real year of teaching so I am extremely excited to begin!

My Project

My students will be working with Lucy Calkins writing workshop which is backed up by research. I will be putting my own spin on each of the lessons, but we just need the basic materials, paper, folders, pens, etc. These supplies will get us off the ground and help us have a successful writing program!

To be an effective educator one needs to be relevant, comprehensive, and practical.

At the heart of any early childhood classroom, there should be a desire to reach out to each child and nurturing and teaching them in ways that they understand so that they can be successful and go on to impact other students and the world.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
