Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students and their families have realized that while they don't have the money to pay for a rigorous private school, there are other opportunities. Our students and their families commit to longer school days and longer school years to get to and through college.

The students at this school are faced with a rigorous curriculum at school with very high expectations as well as responsibilities in their family.

While the teachers hold high expectations, often the families cannot provide the materials that the students need to keep their school materials organized.

My Project

Each subject at our school asks students to bring a different colored binder for class. For example, Math teachers ask for red binders, Humanities teachers ask for blue binders and English teachers ask for green binders. We have found that this helps students stay organized and lets teachers quickly check to make sure that their students are prepared. While this is a system that has been effective for us, with 5 classes, it is hard for families to provide all of the binders and dividers for the binders for their student. I have asked for basic school supplies, primarily binders and dividers as well as composition notebooks that are required for English class.

Our students have made a commitment to go to school for more time each day and have a longer school year because they know that will help them prepare for college.

Please help them be prepared for the excellent learning that will go on every single day at our school.
