My students need basic supplies to start of the year right! Many students come to school unprepared or unable to have all of the supplies needed to be successful in class.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are no strangers to challenges in-and-out of school. Despite the many challenges they face, I am committed to bringing them rich and deep lessons to engage their love of learning.
My students are movers and shakers.
They like to move and love attention. Many of them are being raised in non-traditional households and receive a free lunch based on their socio-economic status. These challenges can prevent them from typical life experiences that so many of us enjoy.
When students are in my classroom, I work to create meaningful interactions and activities that engage them and make them want to be there. While I cannot control what happens when they go home, I can affect their daily experiences at school. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful my lessons and love provide them with the motivation to become life-long learners.
My Project
Many students come to school the first days with little more than a pencil. These supplies will allow students to be successful well organized for the start of the year! Pencils, markers, and colored pencils allow students to use different mediums to show what they've learned. Plastic folders are more durable and last throughout the year so they don't have to be replaced as often. We use highlighters to analyze text and highlight the main ideas and key concepts. All of these items allow our students to have the resources that other might use everyday and not think twice about!
