My students need a library mobile storage cart, a class set of book boxes and take-home book pouches, and other items to begin the 2013-2014 school year successfully!
Help me set a productive tone for my classroom at the beginning of the 2nd grade school year! My students need daily math and grammar journals in order to get the school year off to a successful start!
My 2nd grade students come from a low-income neighborhood in New York and the majority of them qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Accordingly, my students do not all have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic development. Furthermore, as English language learners, many of them come from homes in which English is not the primary language spoken, therefore making it more difficult for my students to receive academic support at home. Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated learners who work hard everyday in order to reach their 2nd grade goals and beyond. I am continually inspired by my students' investment in their learning.
My Project
It is very important to teach my students to become independent and self-sufficient learners in my classroom. 2nd grade is an especially crucial year for my students to learn to be responsible for themselves and their own learning because they are preparing to enter the upper elementary grades the following year. In order to help my classroom to run as smoothly as possible, organization is key! The library mobile storage cart and accompanying book bins will allow my students to easily access the books in our classroom library, as well as to keep them organized. In addition, the individual book boxes will help my students organize their own personal books. It is essential that beginning on Day 1 of the school year, my students understand that they play a key role in keeping our classroom running smoothly. I would love to be able to begin the school year with these materials so I can set up the procedures for independent working time and set a productive tone in my classroom!
I want to start the school year off by teaching my students how to be productive workers during class time.
