My students are a diverse group of learners. Over half of my students come from immigrant families from Africa and Central America. Some students are newly arrived immigrants themselves and speak limited English. We are a family! My students care about one another and love to do collaborative work. They support each other and we celebrate success.
My students are creative kids who need to practice positive relationship building.
Many students carry burdens from their home life and don't get the opportunity to truly be a kid. I want to give them the opportunity to have hands-on experiences that are engaging and open-ended to enhance their creativity and collaboration.
My Project
I want to continue to excite and engage my students from the moment they walk through my door. With a variety of creative and stimulating materials that they can choose from when they come in, they will be able to collaborate and build relationships while designing, or building, or drawing to start their day.
The materials I have chosen address the multiple intelligences of my students.
There are art and tactile materials such as origami and paper airplane books and paper. I have chosen new brain teaser puzzles and number games as well as coding games for the logical and mathematical learners. I have included desk games such as Road Blocks to emphasize interactive play.
My goal is for students to have choices and options for how they want to start their day. If I engage them right from the start, my hope is that will set the tone for the rest of the day of learning.
