I recently took a class in computational learning and we explored programming robots. I immediately thought of my students who love to collaborate and discover. Many of my students come from homes that are not rich with resources. Most do not have a computer in the home. We do have Chromebooks in our classroom and the kids love to code. I want to extend their knowledge of coding to actually program robots to function. I want to purchase kits so kids can collaboratively design, build and program the robots to do what they imagine. I want to show my students that their creative dreams and ideas can become reality! I am ordering Lego Mindstorms kits so my students can create and program creatures, machines and inventions of their own designs. My vision is for the students to collaborate with partners to design and build a robot with unique features. After designing, they will use the software to program the robot to move and function as they command. I am expecting that there will be roadblocks along the way, and my goal is for my students to be cooperative problem solvers as they revise and refine their creations.
