This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the largest school district in the state of Connecticut.

We are also one of the largest schools in our district.

Most of my students live below the poverty line, in environments that are not conducive to learning, and sometimes in circumstances we couldn't imagine. Even with these things going on around them, they make it to school every day and have an insatiable love of learning. The smiles on their faces as they walk through my classroom door every morning is truly what makes me come back each day.

My Project

Teaching in an urban district, year after year, I find that many of my students come to school unprepared. Not because they want to, but because of circumstances out of their control. This can leave them feeling dejected and upset right from the first day of school. I want to change that.

Every child deserves everything they need to start the school year off right.

The supplies I am asking for such as glue, tissues, notebooks and pencils, will give everyone of my students equal footing to start the year off right with the supplies they need to be successful and productive. I don't want them to have to worry about finding the basic such as a pencil or notebook. I want it all to be there for them from the get-go.

This will not only alleviate some of their stress, but also give them the base they need to bolster their confidence and self-worth.
