Starting a New Year With New Supplies and New Ideas!
Help me give my students crayons, folders, dry erase markers, boards and ink for our printers to get them off to a great start on learning and creating for the upcoming year.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income school, my students are from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. Most of my students are lacking a stable home life and a majority receive free lunch. My students have many difficult challenges they face at home on a daily basis. School is an outlet for my students so I try to make their environment a safe and happy place to want to come and learn.
Through engagement in fun activities with games and technology, my students develop a love of learning.
For many in my class, school is their only exposure to technology. I try to foster a love of learning in my classroom so my students become lifelong learners.
My Project
In the beginning of a new school year, many of my students come without supplies or materials due to cost. Some students will come with nothing at all. I like to begin the year with a well stocked classroom and supplies that I can provide for all of my students so that they do not feel left out or labelled for not having materials.
Having a well stocked classroom with available materials, will give students the freedom to learn and grow.
I believe that my students have enough to worry about with home struggles, then to have an additional worry with not having the correct materials to learn. Every student should have the same opportunities to succeed. When there is no concern about what we have to create something, ideas can be limitless!
The folders will be used to organize our subjects and our crayons will be used to create illustrations for our books for art, and to color maps, etc. in Social Studies. The printers I have in my classroom are constantly used to publish student books so ink is in short supply. The dry erase boards, markers, and sticky notes are used for fun, interactive activities in our ELA classroom. Help me give my students all the materials they need to succeed!
