Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are preschool age children who learn best through hands-on activities using a variety of manipulatives. They live in the highest poverty rate zip code in Milwaukee. They deserve high quality materials in their classroom. I have been teaching at this school for 17 years and supply many of the toys and materials I know these young learners need. These preschoolers will learn core subjects using fun and engaging materials! My students and I are very grateful for this opportunity.
My Project
I chose basic school supplies for the majority of my project. I feel it is necessary to have supplies at school for my students to complete various activities and projects. My students' families cannot afford to buy back to school supplies such as crayons or paper. I want my students to experience the excitement of getting new supplies.
My students deserve to have basic school supplies to start the school year off on the right path just as their peers do in more affluent areas in the city. The materials for my project will give my students the chance to create, imagine and explore. I want my students to be excited to start school and to feel the joy of knowing that other people want them to be successful by providing them with materials they need to succeed.
