Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third-grade teacher to twenty-four, kind, respectful, thoughtful students. Each day, we try to make the most of the time we spend together. We learn from each other as we celebrate our successes and learn from our failures.
My students are simply amazing.
They deserve my best every single day and that is what I strive to give them. I want our classroom to be a safe place where they feel comfortable to speak their minds, defend their thoughts and take risks.
My Project
This year, I started Morning Choice in my classroom and it has been one of the most positive changes I have made to my classroom in years! My students' arrival times are staggered in the morning and many eat breakfast in the classroom. Morning choice allows students to have a "soft start" to their day with fun and engaging activities. It has been a simple way to build a classroom community while creating an environment where children feel inspired and successful from the moment they arrive at school!
I truly believe in the quote that "One small, positive thought in the morning can change your whole day!" For my classroom, morning choice has done just that.
Students are given choice from the second they step inside our classroom. This is a time when students can focus on their strengths and passions. Students spend the first 20 minutes of our day choosing to play a board game with a friend, build a magnetic tower or work with a group to put together a puzzle. The materials I am asking for in this project will be added to our already popular and well-used classroom bins.
