"May the force be with you." The force of reading enables students to be successful in reading and in life. My Native American students live in one of the poorest counties in the country. All of our students receive free lunch. My students need this force, and the only way to get it is lots and lots of reading with great books.
Fortunately, we have discovered that many of our boy readers love STAR WARS books. Any book featuring Anakin is an instant hit and will be reread dozens of times. First graders through fifth graders will come into the library and immediately head over to the Star Wars shelf to see if any of the books are in. Unfortunately because we have so few STAR WARS books and no library budget to buy more, the shelf is often empty.
To help our students--especially our boys--nurture their love of reading, we need 15 STAR WARS books for students to check out of the library. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth will have the opportunity to read these books and escape into the future.
