My Students

Sitting in a desk for six hours a day and being expected to learn is just not possible for children with Attention Deficit Disorder.

My classroom is made up of 28 students ranging in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade.

The classroom is a Learning Center which is a combination of students who have less than 50% of their school day in a small group environment and more than 50% of their day (but less than 75%) in a small group environment. Their disabilities range from Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairments, Other Health Impairments, Autism, Emotional Disturbances, and Visual Impairments. I love my students so much.

My Project

A local television station did a segment on a study regarding students in classrooms having stand up desks. These desks give the students time to stand, sit on a stool, swing their feet, and rest their feet on a specifically designed bar on their desk without bothering others in the classroom and maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning. Can you imagine a child having to sit in a hard chair at a large table with no defined individual space? That is what my student's face everyday in my classroom. By having two of these desks, I am giving those students who need this type of learning style an opportunity to learn, their way.

Two stand up desks with stools in my classroom will allow my students the opportunities to learn the way they learn, by moving and giving them the chance to attend while doing this.

Ultimately, this will fulfill my goal for all my students: individualized instruction to meet their needs where they are are at this time.
