Standing Students Need Stools to Rest On!

Help me give my students stools to accompany standing desks so they also have the option to sit.

My Project

My students are hard-working, intelligent, and flexible thinkers. I teach both math and gifted education classes, and my students range from grades 9 through 12. Earlier in the school year, several of them requested flexible seating. In February, I was able to buy a few adjustable standing desks to see how much students would use and gain from the desks. Students said stand-up desks keep them alert and allow them the space to move and think. During state testing, most students chose to work at these desks.

While students welcome the opportunity to stand, they also need stools to sit on when they tire from standing.

Instead of students having to move their books, Chromebooks, papers, and supplies to a traditional desk when they want to sit, stools would allow students to remain at the stand-up desks. This makes the flexible seating option even easier for students.

The combination of the stand up desk and stool will make a great learning environment for my students. Since the desks and stools are on wheels, students can easily move them to different areas of the room. Students can move desks to the board for a workstation, a window for better lighting, or to a computer for additional space and comfort. Students can also easily move when we work in groups and then roll apart to work individually. The additional movement in the classroom offers much-needed flexibility for the individual needs of my students.
