My kids are energetic, and eager to learn. They loved technology but unfortunately they have limited access. We are a Title I school in Miami-Dade County with 89% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. They are in a magnet program that is STEM based and encourages independent learning. However, most of my students receive little to no help at home due to the fact their parents do not speak English.
Therefore, it is my responsibility to ensure that they become independent learners who are self motivated enough to achieve their dreams.
This means promoting technology use, collaboration, communication and creativity. These children do not have college funds; they will need to earn their tuition, and I want to help make that happen.
Children need to move. We encourage kids to play sports, participate in recreational activities, play on the playground, yet we expect them to sit up to six hours a day in class.
Having the ability to move or fidget without disrupting the class seems like a logical answer.
Therefore, a standing desk with fidget bar is what I'm looking for!
Research from Texas A&M found that students at standing desks exhibited higher rates of engagement than their seated peers. Perhaps, standing during tasks in the classroom would decrease the amount of movement breaks often prescribed to children with concentration problems outside of the classroom. Ultimately leading to more in class time and improved peer interaction.
