Standing Desks for Fidgety Students

Help me give my students standing desks and stools, so they have the option to stand and work as well as use the fidget bar to keep them more focused on their schoolwork.

My Project

Imagine sitting in the old, uncomfortable school desks for 7 hours a day. The seats are attached to the desks, so you can’t push back to stretch your legs, and you’re eleven or twelve years old. My 6th grade students are not able to move around the classroom as they are used to in elementary school. As my students’ need to move grows throughout the day, their focus shifts from learning to trying to sit still and daydreaming about recess so they can move. I provide my students with fidgets, but they don’t meet their demands for large muscle movement. These kids need time to stand and move in order to bring their focus back to their school work.

Students are not able to move around the classroom as much as they used to and are required to be at their desks a lot more.

If students have standing desks and stools, they have the option to stand and work as well as use the fidget bar. This will keep them more focused on their schoolwork.

Most students can only sit for so long and begin to get distracted as well as fidgety in their seats. The standing desk allows for more movement, which is exactly what they need this year.

Students will be able to take turns using these standing desks after disinfecting them. This project will serve 124 students.
