Standing Desks for a Movement Rich Environment!

My students need a stand up desk in their classroom to increase their attention span and meet their sensory needs.

My Students

As a teacher with multiple disability students, there is never a "dull moment". I currently have 6 middle-high school students grades 8-12. I also have 2 other middle-high school students grades 10th and 11th. I work with the two throughout the week with vocational and transitional skills. I have 2 students that are diagnosed with autism, 3 students with multiple disabilities, and 3 students with intellectual disabilities. Most of them struggle with sitting for long periods of time. They often need redirected to stay focused and complete tasks. We often take breaks throughout instruction and group activities so they can stand up and stretch. My students are all so caring, hard working and compassionate.

My Project

A standing desk in my classroom will increase engagement while allowing students to shift their bodies and change positions while staying focused. Having a standing desk in the classroom will help my students increase their creativity and help maintain their integrity of complex motor skills required for optimal physical function.

My student's classroom behavior and management will improve while being able to maintain their attention during instruction.

It is proven when students move more, their education improves. My students appear to feel happier when they are standing and able to move their legs and feet. Having a stand up desk within the classroom will give my students the opportunity to have their sensory needs met while focusing on content.
