Do you remember school providing an amazing sense of community and positivity? Well, that's what we are! We are a high school with a very diverse population, with a majority of Hispanic students in the Phoenix Metro area. Many of our students come from families who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My seniors are looking to gain academic skills, as well as prepare for their post-high school adventures!
In our social studies classes, we look to explore the world around us and how we can best contribute to a better world, which includes all students successfully graduating and being involved in their community.
All students come from a unique set of experiences, values, hopes and dreams. We all work to support one another in becoming their best self.
My Project
Teaching and learning during a pandemic is interesting. But, we make it work. All the desks face the front, per part of our safety plan. Everyone wears their mask. We sanitize frequently. We stay out of each other's bubble. Above all else, we are making it work! Things are not perfect, but few things rarely are. We are keeping each other safe.
Flexible seating during a pandemic becomes quite complicated, but we are hoping to remedy this.
It can be complicated to try to use things in a more collaborative way, when we really need to have everyone face the same direction to help ensure the safety of all. To help remedy this, we want to try out these standing desk options. This would allow us to have some other flexible options that can be used in similar ways. Then, once we can go back to greater flexibility and increased collaboration, we can move these desks around and place them in our classroom for other purposes.
