Help me give my students a chance to free up their minds by unfettering their feet with standing desks that are perfect for keeping my students at ease and focused.
My students have an unusually inquisitive nature for things scientific. As RMSA is primarily a school for the arts, the learning styles of each student is so different, some being visual, some auditory, some kinesthetic, and so on.
Scientific inquiry is not a first tier skill for many of my students, but the love of learning and a practiced discipline guides them in their learning.
The arts often evoke deeper talents in unrelated areas - science is one such area.
We have a socially diverse group that are united due to our school’s unique admissions policy: Each student must audition and interview for available slots - halfway through the 5th grade year. The process is fair, equitable, and unbiased. Sometimes, as a teacher, I need to remind these kids just how special they are just by being here.
The kids have lots of energy, some more than others. Sometimes they need to move around more, so they need a standing desk to work at that gives their body a little more freedom their minds deserve!
My Project
We all need to stand for something-why not science? I’ve requested a donation of two adjustable standing computer desks to help my students channel that nervous energy they have in positive ways, ways that neither disrupt the classroom or distract their peers. Many of my students have requested stand up desks, as they were so used to them in some elementary schools. I’d like to help them out with the tools they need. These desks will be a welcome addition to our classroom and will be in constant use! Let’s burn up some of that nervous energy these creative kids have in abundance.
