My students love music.

When my students come to the music room, they are given the chance to put aside any troubles they have and make beautiful music! They are great kids who wear their hearts on their sleeves.

These are elementary students, beginning their young lives. They still have the innocence of childhood and are learning how to navigate the school setting. In music, they are able to express themselves through singing, playing and creating. Our school is a high-poverty school. The current economy has made an impact on our community. We need the resources to offer all of the materials that will make a difference.

My Project

In our music classroom, we are always actively making music. We sing, play instruments, and dance. We often learn fun songs and use a rotation order to practice specific musical concepts on the barred instruments, such as xylophones and glockenspiels. Two of our instruments do not have a stand to keep them off the ground. When the students get to those instruments, they have to kneel behind them. This is very challenging for a few of our students who have movement impairments. Getting up and down from the ground is not easy.

I want to make playing all of the instruments accessible to all of my students.

By putting these two instruments on stands, it makes it possible for all of the students to more easily navigate their way around our rotation circles. Putting the instruments on stands also makes it possible to quickly move them out of the way when we need to clear the room for larger group instruction.
