My Students

My room is covered in motivational quotes about overcoming and not giving up. Every day, I make connections that will boost student confidence not only in math but in life.

I teach middle school Tier 3 intervention math and social emotional classes for struggling learners in Alaska.

Many of my students suffer hardships at home and in life. What amazes me is that with a little love, food, and attention, how resilient they can be. Their attitudes and smiles are contagious. My goal is to provide a safe and secure learning environment where it’s okay to make mistakes because I am not only teaching math, I am also teaching life skills.

My Project

I am asking for a standing desk to help struggling middle school students who often do not get to engage in mainstream education due to lack of home support, resources, or even special education needs. I will use the standing desk to help give students who struggle with sitting for long periods of time a place to stand and work.

Traditional classroom set ups do not take in account the need for preteens to move.

The desk will allow me to become adaptable to my student's needs on any given day. If a student needs to move they need a space where they can also be productive. When their learning "clicks" the students feel more engaged in their school environment and they see value in their education.
