My Students

My students are absolutely wonderful! I work in a small town in Massachusetts about 20 minutes north of Boston. Each year I work with around 100 8th graders helping them learn about the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. We complete our work through many hands-on projects to keep them engaged.

I love working with middle schoolers since they have such a unique way of learning and looking at the world.

Middle schoolers are dedicated to finding themselves and determining the kind of person they are going to be.

As a middle school teacher it is important for me to not only teach them Social Studies content, but how to be successful independent learners. They need to develop their own learning style and figure out what works best for them. I try to empower my students self advocate so they can be successful with the transition to high school.

My Project

Expecting an 8th grade to sit in a chair for 6 hours a day is unrealistic! Students need to get out of their chairs to stretch and refocus. Creating an environment where children can explore and experiment with the learning strategies will allow them to figure out what works best for them.

Standing desks will help students with attention disabilities concentrate on their learning!

Being able to stand will allow them the movement breaks they need to stay focused.

These standing desks will be available to students who need to fidget while they work. Standing can help energize students to actively participate in class on those early Monday mornings!
