In the school district, we are using the "Mind, Body, Health" as a push with the students. As a district, we are trying to help students stay fit, eat healthy, and a healthy mind.
Our Public School is a very large, diverse urban school district with over 16,000 students.
Our students come from a variety of economic backgrounds, with over 60% of the students receiving free lunch. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. Each of their classes is 60 minutes in length, a challenge for any student to sit still for that long. Flexible seating will give the students freedom to move around, stand as needed, and still be engaged in the lesson.
My Project
These materials will help my students have a choice in their education. Many of my students have a hard time sitting for 60 minute classes and are constantly on the "move" around the classroom. Giving them the option to stand instead of sit during class time allows students the movement they need to reach their fullest potential in my classroom. With school days being so long and students only having gym once every other days, by the time they are coming to my class, they need the movement! Standing desks will help with students less likely to leave the classroom for a "walk" or just to move because they can be moving while I am teaching!! Such an investment for the active learner!
