This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every student has creative needs that must be met to maximize their potential in the classroom. I want to meet the learning needs of each of my students. Offering them flexible seating options in the school will give different kinds of learners the ideal space to meet these learning needs. In our urban district, these options go a long way in helping students feel seen.

Countless studies have shown that creative, flexible seating options enhance student engagement, creativity, and achievement.

Students with flexible seating options are afforded comfort and stability that support their mental health. Students at home in their classrooms will feel more comfortable opening up, being themselves, and trying their best. The stacking chairs I request will help students more easily maneuver around our classroom.

I intend to create a classroom workspace that gives students the tools to soar. I want them to have a safe, relaxing space thathem a reason to want to come back to school each day. Student seating arrangements will no longer be in rows by last name or at cold lab tables. Instead, students will sit amongst peers in cozy corners and simple spaces where they can communicate with their peers and participate in group learning. The emotional benefits for students in group working environments are vast! These seating options are the first in a set of many I intend to see my students have to have a co-working, enhanced learning environment.
