My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in the Bronx. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. As a guidance counselor I am working closely with students to support their social and emotional development.
My students are curious, energetic, loving, and silly at times despite their personal challenges in and outside of school.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children. My school is comprised of children who are learning English and also children who have different abilities.
My Project
Our students are growing up in a large, urban, struggling community. As a school guidance counselor, I would like to implement a positive behavioral support system for my students.
My students will learn social/ emotional skills and positive behaviors in my program and will earn educational incentives as a reward.
This will enhance their self-esteem and build a sense of community and cooperation in our school. We aim for our young scholars to aspire to become responsible and honest leaders in our ever changing would.
I have noticed that play-doh is not only a popular incentive among my students but also a great therapeutic tool to reduce their anxiety levels. As some research results show, play-doh can help students develop coping skills.
My students will truly benefit from having a set of play-doh as incentives. They will be even more motivated to make good choices and be responsible learners. Please help my students develop their social/ emotional skills in a fun and productive way.
