Squeeze, Pinch, Roll, Pack, Pound, and Get Ready to Write!
My students need multi-sensory materials to develop their fine motor skills necessary for writing. They love to work with play dough and kinetic sand. We can use droppers and tongs for many fun activities.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you recall the first time you ever set foot in a place called school? You may have experienced anxiety and shyness but those feelings probably soon turned to excitement, anticipation, and joy. As each new school year begins, I have the privilege of introducing young children ranging in age from 3 to 6 to their first school experiences. Our students tend to be active learners who demonstrate excitement and enthusiasm for learning and particularly enjoy hands-on activities. In our Montessori learning environment, our learning materials are displayed on shelves and are meant to look beautiful and inviting. It is always a pleasure to place new activities on the shelves and observe the student's excitement and anticipation to be shown how to work with the materials.
My Project
The materials I've carefully chosen for this project are intended to engage and captivate the students as they develop important skills. The play dough learning mats develop shapes and letter recognition in a way that is enjoyable and fun. As the children roll and pound the kinetic sand they will strengthen their hands and fingers, when they use the tongs to transfer objects or use the water droppers they will strengthen the finger grasp they need to hold a pencil. My students need and want to use their hands as tools for learning and these materials will better allow them to do that. I can already envision the students' excitement when they see these materials on our shelves!
