Help me give my students tools to help them organize our supplies allowing them to quickly find and return the materials they need to be successful in class each day.
Being a kindergartener is hard work! A lot of people hear "kindergarten" and they think it is a day full of singing, playing and having snacks between nap time and circle time.
Our Kindergarten class has a very rigorous schedule full of learning!
With that learning, comes lots and lots of materials. Having a lot of materials is fantastic because the more materials you have, the more materials you are able to put into students hands to get them learning! But, the more materials you have, the more materials you have to organize and store. This is a tall order in our small classroom.
Our tables are color coded by the neon colored baskets and bins found on each. I teach students that everything has a home. I try to color code and label everything as much as possible.
Our classroom may have a lot of resources in it, but my students know exactly where to find everything because they are explicitly taught where each and every resource can be found in our classroom. They know what materials they are allowed to grab on their own and they know which should only be retrieved by teachers. This color coding system along with these bins, have allowed for that to be possible.
As our curriculum has changed, we have gotten new materials...materials that now need to be organized as well. As time has gone on, some of our old bins and baskets have started to wear and tear, some breaking and some cracking and holding on by a thread.
These new materials will help us organize our old and new materials and will allow us to throw away our aging baskets and replace them with new ones. An organized space helps students independence thrive. Thank you for considering our project!
