it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, my Environmental Science and Chemistry students worked diligently to create a more sustainable environment within our high school. Using a program called Eco-School, these kids performed rigorous audits of the school building in an effort to identify ways to improve our ecological footprint. One of the major contributions our school makes to its impact on the environment is the total lack of healthy products available for the community.
To combat this issue, my Eco-School kids are growing hydroponic produce in class to support healthy lifestyles and more eco-friendly habits - it is my intent to give dedicated students simple systems to take home and continue their hydroponic education at home.
The hydroponic gardening systems I am requesting is for students to continue our classroom garden from home. These gardens will be used year after year to support our sustainable food garden. My students researched this project entirely on their own. They developed leadership and public speaking skills, explored their ecological footprints, drove their own project-based learning, and so much more. Knowledge of their personal environmental impact increased substantially. Supporting this project supports a fully student-led, student-driven environmental goal that will help to foster future generations of environmentally conscious citizens which was incredibly successful with my 9th graders last year. Give the students who are coming in this year a chance to have the same experience as my kids did last year.
