Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Gardens create a unique opportunity to make an engaging space filled with endless opportunities to learn and grow. Scholars will have the opportunity to explore our connection and dependency on plant life and how it nourishes us in body and spirit. With the contribution of starter plants, scholars will be able to chart the differences in rate of growth with that of those started from seeds. Learning the importance balance between sun, soil, water, and air to plants brings about harmony that grounds us all.

Scholars will have the opportunity to create designs and help build an accessible garden space that is calming and still energizing.

Our goal is for this project is to provide students with a real connection to the standards taught in class and to the importance of access to healthy foods. I hope this will spark a resurgence of fresh healthy eating and possibly plant a seed in their hearts to start their own garden at home, be it in a windowsill, garden pots, or in the ground. Creating opportunities for our special needs scholars is critical as well as providing them with opportunities to be great and make a difference.
