Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, including academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.

In addition to celebrating my own students, I help with school-wide incentives and celebrations, one of which is Student of the Month lunches. Nominated students enjoy a "fancy" lunch with their teacher, take a picture with them, and receive a certificate. Decor varies by month or holiday. This time, the shamrock cutouts will each have the name of each celebrated student and displayed on the wall. We tend to see a dip in our student attendance in the month of March, so the snacks, book, and pen will serve as rewards for attendance incentives I will be conducting.
