Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are emerging leaders who are discovering their passion through education every day. While my students are learning reading, writing, and math like other children nationwide, they also face adversity daily at home and in their community. I teach at a Title I school located in PA where 89% of my students are economically disadvantaged. Even so, I am committed to providing the best resources and educational opportunities I can for my students.

A majority of my students hope to be the first in their families to go to college and each of them has amazing goals and dreams for their future.

At this time, my school does not have a library for students to access and there is limited funding for classroom books or textbooks.

My students inspire me, challenge me, and help me grow and I want to ensure that I am providing all of the opportunities I can to help them grow and learn as well. I believe that Donorchoose.org can support me with this goal.

My Project

My students struggle as readers. Many do not have books at home or access to a library. As a result, I try to keep a wide variety of books for my students to access in my classroom. Students are able to browse books, check them out, and have 30 minutes during each class every day to read.

My students need new books to explore in order to encourage their love of reading.

By being able to have a variety of books in my classroom, I can better engage all of my students and support their individual needs. My hope is to show every student that they can find something that they love to read, it just takes the time and opportunity to be able to explore different types of books!
